While he played just five times in the entirety of the 2022/2023 Uganda Premier League season, he had featured in each of the games this campaign before suffering a hamstring injury as Vipers beat Kitara FC 2-1 in December.

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have, at long last, confirmed the departure of fast-paced winger Abdu Lumala.

The Uganda Cranes attacker leaves the Venoms after one and a half seasons at Kitende, having joined towards the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

"Vipers Sports Club can confirm that midfielder Abdu Lumala has left the club by mutual consent," the club announced on their website.

"The 26-year-old enjoyed two seasons with the Venoms after arriving as a free agent in July 2022, and leaves to pursue an opportunity elsewhere."

Since his arrival, Lumala played 15 league games, scoring two goals and managing three assists in the process.

He leaves a Uganda Premier League and a Uganda Cup champion, titles he won last season under Alex Isabirye.

Last season, Lumala played in the CAF Champions League, featuring six times and scoring once in the preliminary stage.

Vipers went all the way to play their first-ever group stages of the coveted competition, eventually collecting two points as they finished bottom.
