Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo has urged his teammates to continue fighting for survival in the Saudi Pro League.

Al Wehda secured a crucial 1-0 win against Al Fateh in the Saudi Pro League, a victory the club described as feeling like "six points" in their bid to avoid relegation.

The Nigerian striker played for 68 minutes and commended his team's determination and resilience in securing a crucial victory in their fight against relegation.

Starting the weekend second to last, Al Wehda gained an ideal opportunity early in the match, with Abdulaziz Al Noor finishing off a swift counter-attack just eight minutes into the game.

What Ighalo said to his team

As the 2024-25 season nears its end with only three games left, Ighalo recognises the significance of this victory, understanding that there is little room for mistakes.

According to SPL, he said, “I’m very happy. The most important thing is we won the game — that’s what’s very important. I’m happy we won the game because these are very important points for us.

“This is like six points for us. Because we know if we win this game, we know we have a chance to stay in the league. I’m very happy and thank God we won the game.

Odion Ighalo and his teammates have failed to win any of their last 9 matches.

“Every game for us is like final. Every game is very tough, so we go to the next game to fight and try to get the points.”

Several clubs are locked in a tight relegation battle, separated by only a few points. Al Wehda has moved level with 10th-placed Al Khaleej, both now holding 32 points.

Al Wehda has moved out of the relegation zone to 14th place in the league standings. They now have a two-point advantage over Al Orobah, who are in 16th place.

Meanwhile, Ighalo has faced difficulties in his goal scoring this season, registering only five goals and two assists in 29 league appearances.
