It is under the tutelage of coach Johnathan McKinstry that Omala and Odhiambo's partnership has developed into a sort of telepathy.

Benson Omala has revealed why his partnership with Austin Odhiambo has helped take his game to the next level.

Omala and Odhiambo have played together for three years now, but it is under the tutelage of head coach Johnathan McKinstry that their partnership has developed into a sort of telepathy, with both players understanding each other’s positions without even looking.

Speaking to Sports Eye, Omala revealed that knowing each other “for a long time” has helped their cause as it has made both players the “main men” and match winners for the Green Army.

“We have played together for a long time now and we have known each other,” Omala said. “ He knows how I run and he knows how to give me balls that I can shoot on target,” he added.

“That is why the combination is lethal and we are going to score more goals together.”

Since the appointment of McKinstry, Gor Mahia have played in a 4-2-3-1 cum 4-4-2 formation with Odhiambo playing behind Omala as an attacking midfielder or secondary striker.

Odhiambo’s ability to drift between the lines and make himself an option to receive the ball before executing a killer pass that Omala can get on the end of with his pace and power has made it difficult for teams to stop and it has taken Gor’s attack to the next level.

McKinstry will be hoping he can keep both players tied to the club for longer if they are to become successful in Africa should they qualify for continental competition this season by successfully defending their league title or reclaiming the FKF Cup.

Omala scored 26 goals last season and is on the way to breaking the record if he maintains his momentum, as he has scored six goals from six games so far this season.

Odhiambo also gets goals and contributes with numerous assists as the side’s chief playmaker.
