Anyembe had been out since October due to a long injury layoff but made a comeback for Viborg against Randers on Sunday.

Harambee Stars defender Daniel Anyembe finally made his first appearance since suffering a nasty injury last October, coming on in the 70th minute for Viborg as they ended their bad run of form with a priceless 3-0 win over Randers.

Both Viborg and Harambee Stars had missed his services dearly while he was away. Anyembe missed Kenya’s last three international matches against Russia, Gabon, and Seychelles, and had made 11 league appearances before suffering his setback.

Anyembe will now be hoping he can regain his sharpness in order to help both Viborg and Kenya achieve their objectives.

Viborg took the lead in the 20th minute through Mads Søndergaard after a successful corner kick combination culminated in Oliver Bundgaard rolling a flat ball to Søndergaard, who curled the ball into the net.

Sondergard then hit a nice diagonal to Ibrahim Said, who then hit a pass to Anosike Ementa to make it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Viborg created a couple of opportunities to equalise as Jacob Bonde made it three right after the break, but Randers restored their calm and created a couple of chances in a bid to salvage something from the game.

Substitute Malik Abubakari came closest to scoring with a powerful header, which Randers keeper Patrik Carlgren barely kept out.

Up until the final whistle, the visitors tried to put pressure on Viborg but ultimately, they could not find a way to prevent them from getting all the three points.

Anyembe joined the newly-promoted Danish Superliga club on a deal until June 30, 2025, and has gone on to make 57 appearances for the side.

The defender was born and raised in Denmark, to a Kenyan father and a Danish mother, and before making his Harambee Stars debut against Iran, he revealed why he chose to play for his father’s country of birth.

“The Federation contacted me a few years ago but I ran into an injury. Now this year, we started talking again and I spoke to the coach. He called me and informed me of the project and he told me he had decided to have me," he said after his first training session.

"When he called, I was not in doubt that I was ready to come play for Kenya.

“He (coach Engin Firat) didn’t need to convince me much. He said he had been watching my game and liked how I play and he told me when I come here, I should express myself and be the player that he thinks I am and that I have the quality, but I have to show it.”
