With both Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and Nakivubo undergoing refurbishment, St. Mary’s has been the go-to facility for Ugandan clubs and national teams.

By the time the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminaries start in August, KCCA FC will not have a standard stadium certified to host action of that magnitude.

The MTN Omondi Stadium is yet to get past its first phase of construction and can be referred to as a construction site at the moment.

That leaves the club with only one option, which is outsourcing for a facility that meets the standards set by CAF.

And they are not many in Uganda. St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, home to rivals Vipers SC, is the only facility that meets the set standards in Uganda.

It is also the closest KCCA can access.

While appearing on NBS Sport Friday morning, club chairman Martin Ssekajja hinted at the Kasasiro Boys hosting their CAF home games in Kitende.

It will not be the first time KCCA are hosting games in Kitende, having done the same the last time they played at the same level.

Construction works at Lugogo have been slow and are expected to continue for a while, with the first phase projected to be completed midway through the next Startimes Uganda Premier League season.

With both Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and Nakivubo undergoing refurbishment, St. Mary’s has been the go-to facility for Ugandan clubs and national teams.

The Uganda Cranes have hosted some of their games at the facility, while clubs like URA FC and BUL FC have also played their CAF engagements there.

KCCA qualified for the continental showpiece after finishing second in the league, behind Vipers, who won their first-ever double.
