But, while Ssenyondo is impressed with his team, he feels the second round will be harder. His target is for Kitara to net a top-five finish.

Leading into the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season, Kitara Football Club's fans' expectations hinged around staying in the top-flight.

It was only the second time the Royals were to play in Uganda's most coveted league, after their first in the 2021/22 season, a stay that was short-lived.

This season, Kitara have meant business and beaten the odds under new head coach Brian Ssenyondo.

The club has had their loyal fans believing again that fighting for survival is far from their game. They rightly feel they can contest for the title.

Having wrapped up the first round, Kitara sit third with 29 points, one and four adrift of runners-up Vipers SC and leaders BUL FC, respectively.

But, while Ssenyondo is impressed with his team, he feels the second round will be harder. His target is for Kitara to net a top-five finish.

"We shall come back a better side and continue our target of finishing in the top five ,” Ssenyondo was quoted by the club media.

In his review of the first half of the campaign, the youthful tactician has highlighted on the positives and where he feels the team can improve, going forward.

“The way we started this campaign is different from how we ended the first round," he said before adding:

"We played well with intensity and followed every important detail and got good results but as the league went into match day six going forward, we struggled for consistency, conceded avoidable goals and also threw away vital goal scoring chances among other things."

“Team chemistry is a work in progress, some departments have done well like our attack while creativity in the midfield has sometimes been limited among other things which we hope will come better as the season goes on."

“Everyone at the club knows the task at hand and we can not afford to repeat some mistakes we have done before because they did cost us a lot, rather I need to see positive character, competitiveness and discipline."

"The second round is going to be tougher and teams are going to do their best in terms of reinforcements in the current window," Ssenyondo added.

In the 15 games played, Kitara has picked nine victories, two stalemates and suffered defeat on four occasions.

They have scored 28 goals, the most of any side in the round. Vipers and KCCA FC come close with 26 apiece.
