The former AFC Leopards midfielder-cum striker assisted but could not help Dinamo Brest avoid defeat to Smorgon.

Josphat Lopaga started upfront but could not do much to prevent Dinamo Brest from losing their second league game in a row in an Belarusian Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

Lopaga assisted Brest’s only goal of the match and showed good centre forward play overall but his efforts did little to prevent Brest from avoiding defeat.

It was a game overshadowed by the snowy conditions in Smorgon that forced the players to play on a snowy pitch.

The workers on the complex did everything possible to rake the snow off the pitch for the match, but even this was not enough to abate the problem, forcing the players to play on the surface as it was.

In the first half, the game was even, although both sides struggled to find their rhythm as the raking machine, which was sprinkling sand in order to help dissolve the snow, made many oblong holes with its wheels.

The Blue and Whites were the first to take the lead when Mikhail Gordeychuk netted a curling effort into the back of the net.

Gordeychuk, who is the side’s top scorer, found himself one on one with the keeper after Lopaga had laid a perfect through ball to him,, but made an unfortunate slip, which allowed the forward to send the ball into the empty net.

In the second half Smorgon had an overwhelming advantage, netting three goals in quick succession to give them all the three points through Matvey Dukso who equalized, before Gleb Rassadkin scored a brace to sink Brest’s hearts.

The Kenya u23 international has made nine appearances for Brest since signing in the summer, scoring two goals.
