Musa Masika has been on fine form for Mathare United after being released by Gor Mahia last February.
Mathare United midfielder Musa Masika has explained how joining the Slum Boys has helped him develop his game ever since leaving Gor Mahia on a free transfer during the mid-season transfer window last February.
Masika found game time limited during his one year stay with Gor Mahia, before the former Wazito midfielder opted to join John Kamau’s charges in the hope of revitalising his career, and he has had an impact, having netted five goals, mostly as an impact player.
Despite being part of the squad that helped Gor secure the league title under coach Johnathan McKinstry in 2023, Masika found minutes hard to come by and was eventually deemed surplus to requirements.

“Football is about getting gametime,” Masika told the Media recently. “If I had been given more gametime over there, I am sure I would have had the same kind of impact I have had here. I would have performed even better.”
His decision to link up with John Kamau’s side has proven to be a masterstroke. Since arriving at Mathare, Masika has impressed with five goals to his name, most of them coming off the bench as an impact player.
His resurgence nearly earned him the club's Player of the Month award for April, narrowly losing out to 30-year-old midfielder Mohamed Kilume, despite scoring three of the club’s five goals that month.

Benni McCarthy: Harambee Stars Coach Reveals Why Jadon Sancho Refused to Apologize to Erik Ten Hag
Benni McCarthy spills the beans on the events that made Jadon Sancho and Erik Ten Hag not to see eye to eye at Old Trafford.
Masika’s growing maturity is evident both on and off the pitch. Reflecting on his role at Mathare, he said: “When watching from the sidelines, I have to be prepared because I have to follow the game so I can know how to impact it when I am needed. And when I grab my chances, I have to take them.”
About Musa Masika
The former KCB man’s career began at Kangemi All Stars in 2018, before stints at Wazito FC (2019–2022), The Bankers and eventually Gor Mahia in early 2024. But it’s at Mathare where his attacking instincts and hunger for success have truly flourished.
Masika’s footballing journey traces back to JMJ Academy, where he trained under the guidance of his older brother, Shaban Masika. He shot to prominence after clinching back-to-back MVP titles at the Copa Coca-Cola tournaments in 2012 and 2013, later captaining Laiser Hill to a historic national secondary schools title in 2016.

Akani Simbine Warns Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson After South Africa's World Relays Win
Akani Simbine anchored South Africa's 4 x 100m relay team into clinching the World Athletics Relays gold in China.
Having already represented Kenya once at senior level in a friendly against South Sudan in March 2021, Masika is now eager to make a strong case for a recall to the national team. And with his current form, it may just be a matter of time.
“We will go again next season,” he declared. “I have already scored five goals and I hope to get more before the end of the season—hopefully even more goals.”
Masika’s story is a testament to perseverance, and Mathare United may have just unlocked the best version of a player once lost in the shadows.
