With the search for the next person for the hot-seat still ongoing, Uganda Cranes legend Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has described the qualities the perfect head coach should entail before any appointments.

The Uganda Cranes head coach position is currently vacant following the sacking of Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic almost a fortnight back.

With the search for the next person for the hot-seat still ongoing, Uganda Cranes legend Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has described the qualities the perfect head coach should entail before any appointments.

"Now that the PAMOJA bid (hosting AFCON 2027) is successful, as a Federation (FUFA), they will need to get a coach with a philosophy, to make sure that the team has an identity on how they play," Wasswa told Pulse Sports Uganda in an exclusive interview.

Wasswa stresses that it doesn't matter whether the next coach will be a native or a foreigner, but one that adds tangible and lasting value to the team.

"So, even though we bring in a foreign or local coach, he should make sure that by the time we get to 2027, we have a playing style and a philosophy.”

"It should be the kind of style that will have our fans back (in the stands), the fans that will want to watch the national team play," he added.

Wasswa further stressed; "we can't have the Nambooles that we used to have and people don't understand or enjoy the style or the players on the team."

"So, I call out the federation to pick someone that is going to work with these young boys because we're in a big transition and most of the senior players will not be around (in 2027)."

"The coach will have to know their weaknesses and strengths and make sure to get 100% out of them for the national team," Wasswa summed.

FUFA has recently revealed that 245 individuals have expressed interest in the job, with only two being Ugandans.

It should be noted that Uganda will kickstart the post-Micho era with a trip to Mali against the latter in an international friendly slated for October 13.
