The event is expected to draw over 100 golfers from Tanzania's mainland and Zanzibar, along with prominent golfers from Kenya and Uganda.

Top golfers from the East African region are set to grace the green at the annual Arusha Open tournament.

The two-day competition, organized by Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club, is scheduled to kick off this Saturday at the Arusha Gymkhana Club Golf Course.

The event is expected to draw over 100 golfers from Tanzania's mainland and Zanzibar, along with prominent golfers from Kenya and Uganda.

Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) vice president Prudence Kaijage, also esteemed golfer, and Arusha Gymkhana Club golf captain, expressed anticipation over the highly competitive 36-hole tournament.

"We are expecting competitiveness due to the fact that all the golfers will be targeting top prizes," said Kaijage.

The roster features top-notch players like Isiaka Daudi, Malius Kajuna, Ally Mcharo, Garv Chadha, and Michael Massawe, among others.

The stroke play event promises an exhilarating showdown as golfers vie for several coveted titles including the overall gross winner, overall gross runner-up, overall net winner, and winners and runners-up for divisions A, B, and C.

The women's category isn't left behind, with participants also set to compete for similar honours.

Furthermore, the tournament, sponsored by Reliance Insurance Company Tanzania Limited, is set to award prizes for the senior winner, senior runner-up, junior winner, and winners for both the first and second day of the competition.

In an effort to boost women's participation in golf, the competition committee has increased the number of prizes for the ladies from two to five.

Commenting on this development, Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president Queen Siraki stated, "This is a welcome move and is in line with our drive to increase the participation of women in golf."

The Arusha Open is more than just a golf tournament. With Arusha's global reputation as a tourist hotspot, the tournament also serves to boost sports tourism.

As TGU chairman Gilman Kasiga pointed out, "The tournament is one of the series that provide platforms for the selection of national team players."

As the anticipation for the Arusha Open builds, golf enthusiasts and the public alike can expect a thrilling contest, showcasing the best golf talent the East African region has to offer.
