A group of young sportsmen are training at the Kasarani Stadium ahead of the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

General Team Manager Janeth Jepkosgei has revealed that pitching camp at the Kasarani Stadium ahead of the Youth Commonwealth Games comes as a morale booster for the young athletes.

As they gear up for the challenge in Trinidad and Tobago from August 4 to 11, Jepkosgei noted that Kasarani has seen the rise of great sportspeople before and the youngsters are looking forward to also emerging as champions.

The likes of Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala among other sportsmen conduct their training in Kasarani and the veteran tactician believes that when the youngsters hear of such, they have the confidence that they are also destined for greatness.

“Kasarani is the best place to train and bringing the youth to train here is a motivation to them. Most of them have never been here and they have always been hearing stories that this is the place where national teams train and finally being here, their morale has definitely been boosted.

"We are happy to have chosen Kasarani for their training and this is also a conducive environment for them. Kasarani also ensures that we are always together most of the time if not all the time,” Jepkosgei said.

She added that the youngsters are responding well to training and so far, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The former 800m runner also expressed her excitement to be given the role of the GTM and revealed that in as much as there will be an emphasis on the youngsters to perform well in the sport, she also wants them to take education seriously.

“I always say that I’m an ambassador of sports and education…I want to encourage these youngsters to also take their education seriously as they also engage in sports,” she said.
