Young Lionesses' impress at Commonwealth Games as Team Kenya stamps authority

The youngsters opened their campaign with a disappointing loss to Fiji on Sunday, August 6.

The women's national junior rugby team, Young Lionesses, made a comeback to secure a resounding victory over Wales at the ongoing Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

The youngsters opened their campaign with a disappointing loss to Fiji on Sunday, August 6. The thrilling match saw Fiji take the win after defeating Team Kenya 38-5.

The young squad, however, did not rest on their laurels as they bounced back to take the win over Wales. They played a tactical game to win 20-12 over their opponents. The young Lionesses are yet to face off against the hosts, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, and defending champions Australia.

In other games played, Team Kenya also managed to impress, with Akier Mutinda and Sara Mose making a statement in swimming.

Mose finished first in heat three of the girls' 50m butterfly event, while Mutinda achieved a Personal Best time.

The National Beach Volleyball ladies’ duo of Abigail Chebet and Sharon Jepkogei also bagged maximum points by defeating the hosts 2-0 to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, where their determination and teamwork continue to shine.

Ove the super sprint distance, Iman Maria and Abdul Bagha secured the 20th place in 44:09 and 24th place in 38:14 respectively.
